Open-Access Book Released by Dolly Kikon, Henry Hart Rice Visiting Professor

April 24, 2023

Dolly Kikon, Henry Hart Rice Visiting Professor at the MacMillan Center for 2023, has written
four books on issues like resource extraction in India’s borderlands and urban violence in the
Indian city of Dimapur. South Asian Studies Council joins her in celebrating the release of a new
addition to that collection: Seeds and Sovereignty: Eastern Himalayan Experiences (North
Eastern Social Research Centre, 2023). Seeds and Sovereignty, which was co-authored with
Dixita Deka, Joel Rodrigues, Bengt G. Karlsson, Sanjay Barbora, and Meenal Tula, explores
agricultural customs in the Eastern Himalayas from a food sovereignty perspective. It draws on
the work of the authorial team for Practicing Food Sovereignty, a project at Stockholm
University that studies indigenous agriculture in Himalayan regions of Bhutan, Bangladesh,
Nepal, and India. The book is open-access and available online; it is also available in print from
Amazon.
