Unapologetically Indian: Culture, Race, & Identity Explored In A One-Woman Show
April 7th at the Harkness Auditorium, Yale University
University of Virginia’s MFA Acting Candidate Priyanka Shetty will perform her one-woman show The Elephant in the Room on Sunday, April 7th, 2019 at the Harkness Auditorium, Yale University.
Unapologetically Indian, The Elephant in the Room is a tumultuous ride through seemingly immiscible cultures, love and loss, issues of race and the desperation that comes with not fitting in. The play navigates the author’s transition from her deeply-embedded roots in India to finding context and common ground in America.
Playwright and actress Priyanka Shetty is currently completing the final year of her Master of Fine Arts degree in Acting at the University of Virginia. The Elephant in the Room is the first play in a triptych by Priyanka Shetty which captures the experience of international students in a deeply personal narrative. The second play in the series #Charlottesville is a documentary-style play constructed verbatim from interviews with the residents of Charlottesville, VA who speak about the city in light of the Unite the Right rally and the events of August 11-12, 2017 and its aftermath. The third play titled The Wall will explore immigration issues in America.
The Elephant in the Room recently made its World Premiere on March 14th, 2019 in Columbus, OH, and the performance at Yale marks the beginning of a multi-city tour across the US.
The Elephant in the Room will be presented on April 7th at 7:00 pm at the Harkness Auditorium at Yale University. Entry is free and seating is first come first served.
