A mushaira is a poetic symposium. Also called a mehfil, it is an event where poets gather to perform their works. A mushaira setting is a beloved part of the culture of the Indo-Persian subcontinent. Doubtlessly, this tradition is practiced in Urdu, Hindi, Turkish, Persian, Arabic, and countless other languages, including even English.
We have a wonderful roster of recitations programmed for you but the tradition calls for an open-mic format so we urge all who may be willing to recite to bring a few verses with them.
